2009 Accomplishments

  • Continued the “Adopt-a-Planter” and “Adopt-a-Block” programs, enhancing the beauty of downtown.
  • In cooperation with the City Public Works Department, held the 6th Annual Spring Clean Up to reduce the fire load in downtown.
  • Completed building inspection surveys on all downtown properties, resulting in 20 property citations.
  • Maintained a conduit of information between business owners and the City of FDL during the sidewalk replacement project.
  • In conjunction with the City Public Works Department, decorated the downtown with holiday decorations.
  • Completed the planning and installation of the Main Street Plaza clock tower with the assistance of the City Community Development Department.
  • Published and distributed the “Downtown Parking Guide”.

    2010 Goals

  • Parking Management
        · Monitor pedestrian crosswalks ease of use and condition.
       · Monitor the need for enhancements in parking signage to make parking easier to find.
       · Keep the “Downtown Parking Guide” up to date and distribute to businesses.
  • Streetscape amenities
       · Maintain “Adopt-a-Block” program.
       · Maintain the “Adopt a Planter” program.
       · Make downtown festive during the holiday season with lights, garlands and banners.
       · Beautify downtown by planting annual flowers in the spring where needed.
  • Maintain a clean streetscape.
       · Administer downtown inspection surveys.
       · Monitor the need for additional/supplementary cleanup during new sidewalk construction.
  • Continue to provide communications to downtown businesses during the sidewalk reconstruction project via the City Engineering Department.
  • Pending approval of the Downtown Development Plan by City Council, form an Architectural Review Board and recommend a process to complete Urban Design Standards to include signage and amenity continuity.
  • Continue to work with city on any pertinent regulations regarding zoning, parking, and traffic, or any other concerns that are brought to the attention of the committee.
  • Look for additional amenities that would enhance Main Street Plaza.
